Chapter 25

Austin

Levi was always sexy, but something about seeing him thoroughly fucked and duly debauched made me want to get hard again a lot faster than my almost-forty body was willing to do. Fine, I could wait, but as soon as I’d recharged enough, I definitely wanted him again.

For now, he was curled against me beneath the red and black comforter in the leather room. Upstairs would probably be more comfortable, but I didn’t feel like walking that far. Especially since that meant getting up, letting him go, and—yeah, no. This would work just fine.

After a while, I stroked his hair. “Still awake?”

“Mmhmm.” He gazed up at me with an adorably sleepy smile. “I needed that.”

I laughed and pressed a kiss to his forehead. “Me too.”

“Even if you’re a tease from hell,” he grumbled good-naturedly.

“Hey.” I shrugged. “Dom’s privilege.”

He laughed, but sounded… off. Like it had tripped some thoughts that weren’t as pleasant as they should be right now. Slowly, his easy, relaxed state seemed to give way to creeping tension. He didn’t draw away from me per se, but he stiffened subtly in my arms, as if there was something going on in his mind that was pulling the warmth and bliss of the afterglow away from him.

Cautiously, I asked, “You okay?”

“Yeah. I…” He chewed the inside of his cheek. “Look, you’re my Dom. And the further we get into this… Into the Dom/sub thing, and… Whatever we’re doing.”

I studied him. “Yeah?”

“There’s…” Levi stared down at the sheets, some color blooming in his face. “I just—you told me trust is a two-way street, right?”

“It is, yes.” I had no idea where this was coming from or where it was going. If the scene had stirred up some emotions, or… I just didn’t know.

“I trust you,” he went on. “I really, deeply trust you more than I’ve trusted other people.”

I cocked my head. “That’s good, isn’t it?”

“It’s…” Levi gnawed his lower lip. “It is. It’s really good. But I feel like I need to be honest with you because of it. More honest than I’ve been with other people. Because not telling you things—it feels wrong, and… I don’t know if that makes sense, but there’s something I need to get off my chest.”

I blinked. “Uh. Yeah. Sure. Whatever it is.” Sometimes intense scenes could make people vulnerable and emotional, even if it was a relatively light scene. This probably wasn’t sub drop, but I suspected it was still, on some level, an emotional floodgate triggered by everything we’d just done.

“Okay, so…” He cringed. “You’re probably not going to like it. Just… hear me out.”

I watched him. “What’s on your mind?”

His jaw worked. Then he took a deep breath and met my gaze. “A little while after we, um, met…” He closed his eyes, and as he exhaled, his shoulders sank. “The thing is, I’d been casing a neighborhood for a while. Before we ever crossed paths. And I was—”

“You hit another house?” My heart dropped. “Are you fucking kidding me? After we—”

“Just listen.
